The Whole Armour of God

The Whole Armour of God

May the belt of truth be the foundation of our Christian lives.

O Lord God, who knows the very secrets of our hearts;

root out of my heart all hypocrisy and deceit,

that I may be truthful and upright in all that I do and say.

Keep me from evil-speaking, lying and slandering;

and help me, that, ever following after truth,

I may serve thee in all sincerity of purpose;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Next comes the breastplate of righteousness.

We need the Lord’s righteousness because we have

none of our own.

Dear Jesus, help me to spread your fragrance and light

everywhere I go.

Flood my soul with your Spirit and life.

Penetrate and possess my whole being so utterly

that all my life may be only a radiance of yours.

Shine through me and be so in me

that every soul we come into contact with

may feel your presence in my soul.

Let them look up and see no longer me

but only you Lord Jesus.

Have feet fitted with the readiness that comes from

the gospel of peace.

Lord, make me a fisher of your people.

Where I am fearful, make me strong,

where there are barriers, break them down,

where there is conflict let me bring peace,

where there is doubt, truth,

where there is despair, hope,

and where there is darkness, light.

O Divine Master, open the eyes of the blind,

break the stubborn will,

pacify the aggressor,

comfort the sorrowful,

fill the hungry with good things.

Help us to give freely of ourselves,

that we may see many come to know you

in your Son Jesus Christ our Lord,

we pray in his precious name.

In addition to this take up the shield of faith.

Dear Lord, may the shield of faith protect my family and

friends, Churchwardens, PCC members and Church Leaders, and also me.  Protect us from all assaults of the evil one.

And going out into the world let us put on the helmet of Salvation claiming the victory of Christ Jesus as our own.

May the mind of Christ my Saviour

live in me from day to day,

by his love and power controlling

all I do and say.

Finally, with the sword of the Spirit – May I fight valiantly under the banner of Christ against sin, the world and the devil, and continue his faithful soldier and servant to the end of my life.
