We are a traditional church with a Mission Heart, seeking what God wants, and keen to develop the next generation of leaders.
Our vision for Mission
Jesus said: "..you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Acts 1:8
In 2013 our Church Council approved a new Mission Policy and appointed a Mission Support Team comprising members from our five churches to implement this policy.
We believe Mission is God's way of reaching out in love and blessing to the whole world. We believe God has given this task of mission to his Church worldwide; so as his Church in Wareham we are committed to world mission.
We therefore seek to build and develop mission partnerships with other Churches, individuals and organisations locally here in Wareham, nationally and internationally. These partners are doing a wide variety of things - proclaiming the Gospel, witnessing with compassion, seeking justice, teaching and training for ministry - all with the aim of connecting people with Jesus Christ and the blessing he brings.
Our aim is to inspire and encourage Church members to be involved in mission through our friendships, prayers, giving, going and receiving!
Wareham Parish Travel Grants for Young People
The Parish Churches of Wareham are offering annually two grants of up to £500 each to young people for the purpose of travel to undertake a project of a Christian or humanitarian nature.
Travel may be to an overseas location, or within the UK, and must be under the auspices of a recognised sponsoring body. The Grant may be used for travel expenses, accommodation or subsistence as required.
Applicants should be between the ages of 17 and 20 at the time of travel, and be resident within the Wareham parish, or be in full-time education or employment within the parish.
The Sudan Link
We have a mission link with the Sudan through the Salibury Diocese who has had a partnership with Sudan for 50 years. We are also in the process of developing a link through the Purbeck Deanery with two diocese in the Sudan, following a Deanery Team visit in 2012. We believe it is right to strengthen the partnership with the whole Diocese in his new country with all its challenges after years of war. Although supported by the whole Deanery, Wareham has a special link with Terekeka, South Sudan. We have supported St Stephen's Secondary School in the area for a number of years, and Swanage has a special link with Torit.
Ruth Guinness with Sim in Malawi
Ruth, who has her UK base with us in Wareham, works with Serving in Mission at the Evangelical Bible College in Blantyre (EBCoM). The college provides Bible based training for future pastors, Church leaders and other Christian workers. Ruth is also involved in helping produce lay training material for use by many Churches in Malawi.
Malcolm & Yanet Taylor with YWAM in the Dominican Republic
Malcolm, who as a teenager was a member of our young people, worked for some time with "Mercy Ships". He is now base Director of the YWAM (Youth With A Mission) project in San Pedro, running Homes of Hope, Misison Adventures and training programmes. In 2013 he married Yanet, a Dominican doctor.
We have developed our partnership with Tearfund (The Evangelical Relief Fund founded in 1968), who is now working in more than fifty countries responding to disasters and campaigning for justice. The vision is to see 50 million people released from material and spiritual poverty through a worldwide network of 100,000 local Churches worldwide.
